Dr. Pickens was born in Seattle, WA and grew up primarily in Austin, TX. She graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with her Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Science in 1995. She remained at TAMU and graduated Cum Laude in 1999 with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. This was followed by a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Metroplex Veterinary Centre in Irving, TX. Dr. Pickens worked in the Houston area as general practitioner for the next 2 years. She then pursued her long-time interest in internal medicine and completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at Louisiana State University. She has been practicing internal medicine in the D/FW area since 2004. Dr. PickensÂ interests include endocrinology, hematology, infectious disease, and critical internal medicine cases. She and her husband share their home with 2 dogs and 1 cat. Outside of work Dr. Pickens enjoys traveling, hiking and other outdoor recreation, cooking, reading, and watching movies.
