Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Jenny B. Powers has been practicing at Yadkin Park Animal Hospital in Southern Pines, NC since 1995 after graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. Dr. Powers received her Bachelors of Science in Biology and graduated magna cum laude from Meredith College in 1988. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, the daughter of a physician and a medical technologist, and the youngest of 6 children, Dr. Powers grew up caring for animals and spending a lot of time at a goat farm tucked away in the hills of Southwest Virginia. There she worked alongside and was inspired by a mixed animal veterinarian, later volunteering in his clinic and joining him on farm calls. After graduating from college and before attending veterinary school, Dr. Powers worked for three years as a research technician at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the Department of Cell Biology and also worked as a wildlife intern at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Dr. Powers enjoys the everyday excitement and variety of practicing veterinary medicine and feels that people are the most important part of veterinary medicine. Her interests include internal medicine, dermatology, wound management, and feline medicine. Her professional passions include public health and zoonoses, and the One Health/One Medicine initiatives. Currently living in the woods of Chatham County with her husband, Dr. Powers has two cats, seven chickens, and dreams of having a herd of goats one day.
