My dog became ill on Christmas eve and was worse on Christmas morning. Rocky Gorge was able to see us asap and were very good at explaining the time frame and procedures we were facing. We had to leave the dog there for part of the day, and Dr. Thompson was great about calling to explain the next procedure we could try and the associated costs every step of the way. She was conservative in her diagnosis and procedures and the cost was reasonable. Our fur baby came home Christmas night and is on the road to recovery; and I am very thankful for Dr. Thompson and the staff at Rocky Gorge. Highly recommend!!

I took my 11 week old puppy because she suddenly became ill. Wasn't eating; drinking; playing or running around. She was vomiting; had diarrhea with blood and lethargic, we were very scared and worried about our puppy. This veterinarian wasn't considerate to our feelings at all. She only cared about the money. Just wanted to force hospitalization on us, knowing that I did not have the money at that time to do so. The other Veterinarian was wonderful, she tested my puppies WBC and saw that she could be cared for at home given fluids and if she got worse to bring her back to be hospitalized. Through all of this my puppy still had a lot of life in her and was feisty. I forced fluids in her and her Tomlyn supplements in her, wasn't easy; gave her pedialyte; a tiny bit of chicken broth and goats milk, couldn't give the sub Q injection of fluids that the first vet Dr. instructed us to give twice a day. We found out that we could go to Rocky G. and a vet tech could give it to my puppy, took all of five minutes for them to do it and I paid for it. The last time I went there was after hours and no one told me that I should come between the hours of 8am to 8pm that after 8pm Dr. Thompson is busy doing surguries/surgery and was working with limited staff. Dr. Thompson came out to give my puppy the sub Q injection of fluids and wasn't very nice at all, said "I can't keep coming back or doing this" I explained that I am stressed, I suffer with anxiety and can't give the sub Q myself; she commented that I was instructed that if she wasn't any better that I needed to bring her in to be hospitalized and I responded with I told you that I don't have the $2,500.00 dollars right now to do that. She then responded that maybe I should give her up to the breeder or recue or put her down. I explained that I could give like $800.00 right now just to help my puppy in any way that I wasn't looking for a hand out/freebee, she said she couldn't do that as she has bills to pay ect... Very insensitive and not compassionate to our suffering as we had been up for 24-7 with my puppy since she was very sick was terrified that she was going to die. Afraid that I would leave the room to use the bathroom and come back and find her dead, the vet said "it doesn't happen that fast, that would be gradual that she will decline. She was diagnosed with Parvovirus which in most cases is deadly. I'm happy to say she made a full recovery and my vet Doctor says she has beat this deadly illness. That she is indeed a miracle. Doctor Thompson made our experience absolutely horrible!!!!!. A doctor should explain the diagnosis don't sugar coat it but approach us gingerly. Be caring, understanding; helpful and listen to your customers and offer solutions. I went to Pet ER in Columbia, MD and Dr. Kim was absolutely wonderful and his staff. They were compassionate; offered me an alternative solution that I truly believe ultimately saved our puppies life literally the care he received there as an outpatient and medicine given and told to give her NUTRAMAX PROVIABLE Digestive health Supplement saved our puppies life. She is a happy vibrant/healthy puppy. I DO NOT RECCOMMEND that anyone go to Rocky Gorge if you have an emergency situation as Dr. Thompson will most likely suggest that you put your animal down or spend a lot of money to hospitalize your pet. I'm not saying that there are not times that require you to hospitalize your pet, BUT not all the times and not willing to find an alternative solutions to fit individual needs. To be more flexible with helping people. I literally said to her, asked her "WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO, LET MY PUPPY DIE"????? SHE didn't care at all. I will NEVER RECOMMEND that anyone go to Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital in Laurel, MD. The entire experience has taken a toll on my mental state. My daughter was depressed and my son just wasn't grasping the seriousness of the situation.
