Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Bishop attended UC Davis and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Evolution and Ecology. During school he worked in a life-sciences lab, tutored undergraduates in biology, volunteered at the Sacramento Zoo, and drew a cartoon for the school newspaper about the campus squirrels. After graduation he briefly pursued a career in wildlife filmmaking, but ultimately decided he wanted go back to school and achieve his dream of becoming a veterinarian. In 2009, he returned to UC Davis and began courses at the School of Veterinary Medicine. During his time in vet school, he was the president of the Wildlife Medicine Club, edited the school newspaper, and worked as an academic tutor. He also received the 2012 AVMA Veterinary Leadership Scholarship, the 2012 Linda Sue Herman Scholarship, the 2013 Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Medicine Scholarship, and won first place in a student manuscript competition at the 2013 American Association of Zoo Veterinarians meeting. He graduated in 2013 and was elected as a student speaker at the commencement ceremony. After graduation he completed a rigorous internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island, in New York. There he worked with specialists in Veterinary Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Emergency and Critical Care, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Oncology, Dermatology, Analgesia and Anesthesia, and Avian and Exotic Medicine. He returned to his native San Diego and is excited to join the team at Coastal Animal Hospital. His professional interests include anesthesia and analgesia, soft tissue surgery, and ultrasound. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, and the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association.
