While working as an emergency veterinary technician during her undergraduate years, Dr. Ilona Jaffe also volunteered with the local fire department. She watched a firefighter pull a dog from a fire then administer oxygen. That dog, Snoopy, became a patient at the emergency clinic where she worked, and she remembers how grateful the family was when Snoopy was treated and eventually discharged to them. Dr. Jaffe describes this event as the reason she went into veterinary medicine. For her, its not just about caring for the animal, its about helping the pet families.
